There Will Be Blood 2007

There Will Be Blood is a 2007 film directed, written, and produced by Paul Thomas Anderson. The film is inspired by Upton Sinclair’s novel Oil! (1927), and tells the story of Daniel Plainview’s quest for power in Southern California’s oil boom of the late-19th and early-20th centuries.

It stars Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano. Shooting began in mid-May 2006 in New Mexico and Marfa, Texas, with principal photography wrapping August 24, 2006. The first public screening was on September 29, 2007, at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. The film was released on December 26, 2007, in New York and Los Angeles, and then opened in a limited number of theaters in selected markets. It opened in wide release January 25, 2008.

The film received significant critical praise and numerous award nominations and wins. It appeared on many critics’ “top ten” lists for the year, namely the National Society of Film Critics and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. Many Best Actor Awards including a BAFTA, Golden Globe, and the Screen Actors’ Guild went to Daniel Day-Lewis for his performance, and the film has been nominated for numerous Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay.
